PIC was approved!
In November we started the process to become a Partner Agency with the Food Bank. After attending several trainings, submitting the application and having a site visit, in February PIC was officially approved to be a Partner Agency. This means PIC is able to:
Purchase additional Mobile Food Pantries containing pallets of food that will provide approximately 20 pounds of fresh fruit, vegetables and meat for 100 families.
Eligible to shop from the Agency store where we can select bulk non-perishables at greatly reduced rates as well as small quantities of produce at NO Cost.
There are additional services we’re still learning about.
God provides!
In the fall we also applied for a grant from the United Healthcare Ministries and in January we received $5,000 to be used towards our Summer Reading Mentor program and providing nutritious food to families in need. I sit in awe at the amazing ways God is providing.
In April, we applied for and received approval for our Summer Reading program to be a Summer Food Service Assistance host site with the San Antonio Food Bank. This means the SA Food Bank’s culinary team will prepare and deliver fresh, nutritious lunches to be served every Friday to children in need, age 18 and under for FREE. It’s a federal program, run locally through the Food Bank, so we’ll need to purchase the lunches served to the parents that eat with their children as well as the teen and adult volunteers so that they can continue to eat lunch with their mentee and spend that additional time together.
This next gift astounds me. Beautify San Antonio, a non-profit that has done amazing work to beautify SA since the 1950’s and award grants to schools for community

gardens, recently choose to dissolve. They still had funds in their account that needed to be disbursed to another non-profit. After learning about PIC’s work, the underserved area we serve and that there isn’t public transportation in the area they choose to donate their remaining funds - $29,000 – into PIC’s account with the SA Food Bank to support PIC’s work with children and families in need. God is absolutely amazing.
